What can we do to help during this time?

Here’s an idea we’d like to share with you….

The pandemic is here, and it’s easy to feel a bit overwhelmed. Are you looking around, trying to find a positive way to be proactive and do something to help?

We’ve got a plan…

We know that in hard times, our Habitat families are often the hardest hit – hours cut, jobs eliminated. Even though they are in affordable homes – thanks to all of you who were the sponsors, donors and volunteers of these homes – sometimes keeping up with the mortgage becomes a challenge. In good times, families have options, but in tough times, they are hard to come by.

We’ve thought about how to help our Habitat partner families if they hit upon hard times in the year ahead. We’re trying something new but we need your help.

We’ve set up a Habitat Susquehanna Mortgage Relief Fund that we’d like to offer to any struggling Habitat household during this pandemic. The Habitat homeowners would contribute to it, too, in the same tradition we have always had of a “Hand Up, not a Hand Out.” You give a contribution, they give a matching amount.  Some of their money, some from the community. Something to help get them through this rough patch.

We’ve all worked hard together before, and this is no different.

Social distancing is temporary – we’re all in this together.
