Habitat for Humanity, Susquehanna

Thank you for your interest in volunteering

for Habitat for Humanity Susquehanna and the Aberdeen ReStore!

NON-CONSTRUCTION VOLUNTEERS:

If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Michele Louderback,  Community Engagement Manager at 443-895-0036 for all categories listed below, unless otherwise indicated

1. Habitat committee volunteers serve “behind the scenes.” They usually meet on a regular basis to plan and organize the work of Habitat Susquehanna.

Committees include:

      • Outreach Committee (point of contact is Michele Louderback, Community Engagement Manager)
      • Homeowner Selection Committee (point of contact is Heather Gibson, Homeownership Program Manager)
      • Events Committee (point of contact is Kelly DeNichilo, Events Coordinator)

2. Outreach volunteers help share information about Habitat Susquehanna’s mission, programs, and ways to get involved with Habitat or the Aberdeen ReStore. They may staff tables at community events and participate in other outreach opportunities. Outreach volunteers do not have to be members of the Outreach Committee.

3. Mentors help Habitat homebuyers throughout the homeownership journey. They work with approved applicants to support and encourage them, attend meetings with them, and act as a liaison for Habitat Susquehanna. For information on being a mentor and/or serving on the Homeowner Selection Committee, contact Heather Gibson, Homeownership Program Manager, at hgibson@habitatsusq.org.

4. Volunteer photographers are needed to help provide photography support at many of our events, such as fundraisers and home dedication day ceremonies.

5. Office volunteers complete tasks such as data entry and filing in the main Bel Air office.

6. The Aberdeen ReStore is proudly owned and operated by Habitat for Humanity Susquehanna. Proceeds from the ReStore help more homeowners build better lives for themselves and their families. Aberdeen ReStore volunteers are needed to help with all things related to running a home improvement store, such as customer service, donation processing, cashiering, furniture repair, loading/unloading donations, cleaning and organizing, pricing, etc. For information on being a volunteer at the ReStore, contact Ashley Hall, Volunteer Coordinator, at ahall@habitatsusq.org. Sign-up for volunteering at the Aberdeen ReStore is located under the VOLUNTEER tab on our website.

7. Repair Program volunteers join us once a year during Cecil Cares Day  — the annual countywide day of service event in Cecil County — when we do yard work, small repairs, and other general cleanup at a designated location. While our participation in Cecil Cares Day began in 2016 (its inaugural year) and every year since, in 2021 we formed a partnership with Bayside Community Network to combine our volunteers together for that day. We have proudly continued this fruitful volunteering partnership with Bayside each year on Cecil Cares Day. For information on volunteering with us on the next Cecil Cares Day, contact Lydia Jordan, Repair Program Manager, at ljordan@habitatsusq.org. (To learn more about Cecil Cares Day and volunteer opportunities with other participating organizations, visit the Volunteer Cecil website.)

8. Food Prep volunteers provide lunches for volunteers working at our construction sites. This is a great opportunity for churches, youth groups, social and community groups, and other organizations to serve together. Food Prep volunteers are especially helpful when we host out-of-state college students spending their spring break volunteering with us, and during Women Build (typically held in May and June). Individuals and groups can also provide desserts for our volunteers, which can be a fun service opportunity for youth.

9. Clean-Up Crew volunteers help clean a Habitat home to make it “show ready” in the days leading up to the home dedication ceremony. This is a great opportunity for individuals or groups, including youth groups, to volunteer together.
